College Counseling

Finding the Best Fit College
We hear it time and again, from colleges, parents, and our students themselves: our graduates move on from their St. Timothy’s experience extraordinarily well prepared for college. Our priority is to help students discover what they want from college and to find the path that will lead them there.

We try to reduce stress and encourage students to explore colleges with support from the college counseling office.
Students discover a portfolio of possible college destinations; prepare applications and essays; sit for standardized testing in the comfort of our classrooms with our faculty; and benefit from our highly individualized guidance, counseling and direction throughout the process from our college counseling office.

SAT/ACT Preparation, on-campus testing, college search technology, step-by-step guidance for completing and submitting applications, and in-depth coaching for preparing the wide variety and number of college application essays required in the post-pandemic college admissions landscape are all hallmarks of college counseling at St. Timothy’s.

The value and importance of our International Baccalaureate curriculum and assessments have become even more compelling now that SAT/ACT testing is optional at most colleges.  As admission officers try to assess the rigor of any student’s academic program and results, especially in the absence of standardized test scores, our IB curriculum provides a clear picture of a student’s ability to manage a challenging course load. Universally acknowledged and respected, the IB program is regarded as the most rigorous of any high school curriculum.

St. Timothy's students have been named recipients of some of the nation’s most prestigious scholarships, including the University of Virginia’s Jefferson Scholarship, the University of North Carolina’s Morehead Scholarship, The Gates Scholarship to attend M.I.T., and an A.B.C. Scholarship to attend Davidson College.
